Abstract: An FeMoAl coating has been obtained on a carbon steel by electroplating FeMo and subsequent pack aluminizing. The sulfidation kinetics of this novel coating has been studied in the mixed circumstances of approximate 10 3 Pa sulphur pressure as well as 10 -3 ~1 Pa oxygen pressure at 800 ℃. It has been discovered that the existence of trivial oxygen in the environments is a premise of the sulfidation resistance of the FeMoAl coating. While aluminium was selectively oxidized, i.e. a preferential alumina scale formed, Mo could enhance the sulfidation resistance of the FeMoAl coating. In addition, the improvement of its sulfidation resistance could be achieved by surface applied scales of Fe 2O 3+SiO 2 mixtures on the top of FeMoAl coating owing to the increase in oxygen pressure in the surface layer of the coating.
