Abstract: In this paper, a distortion dynamic strain energy density factor criterion for dynamic mixed-mode fracture initiation in rock is suggested.The results of the investigation on 14 three-point bending (TPB) and four-point bending(FPB) rock specimens tested under the dynamic Ⅰ~ Ⅱ mixed-mode loading are reported. The results show that the new criterion, suggested by authors, is in good agreement with our experimental results. In addition, this study has evaluated experimentally for the first time the relative accuracy of two current fracture theories and two new criterions suggested by authors in predicting dynamic mixed-mode initiation fracture loading and fracture angle in rock.
