THERMAL DECOMPOSITION OF AMMONIUM MOLYBDATE MIXTURE

Abstract: High temperature XRD and DTAITGA xvere employed to study the thermal decoinpositionof a commercial ammonium molybdate mixture which is used as the starting material for the pro-duction of molybdenum metal. Results show that the componenls in the mixture decompose sepa-rately at three temperatures according lo the following five steps: (NH₄)₆Mo₇O₂₄·4H₂O→(NH₄)₄Mo₅O₁₇→(NH₄)₂Mo₄O₁₃; (NH₄)₂Mo₄O₁₃ and β- (NH₄)₂Mo₄O₁₃→(NH₄)₂Mo₁₄O₄₃→ (NH₄)₂Mo₂₂O₆₇→MoO₃ The weight percentage of each component was evaluated from weight losses in TGA curve.
