Abstract: High temperature XRD and DTAITGA xvere employed to study the thermal decoinpositionof a commercial ammonium molybdate mixture which is used as the starting material for the pro-duction of molybdenum metal. Results show that the componenls in the mixture decompose sepa-rately at three temperatures according lo the following five steps: (NH4)6Mo7O24·4H2O→(NH4)4Mo5O17→(NH4)2Mo4O13; (NH4)2Mo4O13 and β- (NH4)2Mo4O13→(NH4)2Mo14O43→ (NH4)2Mo22O67→MoO3 The weight percentage of each component was evaluated from weight losses in TGA curve.
