热带太平洋POC聚合的234Th-238U不平衡示踪

摘    要:应用234Th/238U不平衡示踪热带太平洋表层水体POC聚合速率的经向变化特征。总234Th亏损程度自180°W向90°W逐渐增强,显示东太平洋上升流影响的西向弱化特征。一维稳态聚合模型结果表明,溶解态234Th的清除速率常数与0.7~5.0 mm粒级颗粒态的聚合速率常数都表现为自西向东的增加趋势,揭示热带东太平洋颗粒物更易于聚合为较大粒径(>5 mm)颗粒物;234Th的清除、聚合及迁出速率均呈现自180°W向90°W逐渐增大的态势,且聚合速率和迁出速率接近,反映出234Th被清除至颗粒物后短时间内即随颗粒物沉降迁出;根据234Th得到的聚合速率常数,获得0.7~5.0 mm粒级颗粒有机碳POC的聚合速率介于47~264 μmol/(m3·d)之间,平均为134 μmol/(m3·d),颗粒态氮PN的聚合速率介于4~44 μmol/(m3·d)之间,平均为21 μmol/(m3·d),POC和PN的聚合速率均表现出东太平洋明显高于中太平洋的特征;不同粒级POC浓度、聚合速率及输出通量经向分布特征之间的耦合关系证明POC的聚合速率在很大程度上调控着POC的输出通量。

Abstract: Longitudinal variability of 234Th/238U was examined to reveal particulate organic carbon (POC) aggregation in the tropical Pacific Ocean. Deficit of 234Th increased from 180°W to 90°W, indicating a westward decreasing affection of upwelling originated in the eastern Pacific. The rate constants of both scavenging and aggregation, calculated from a one-dimensional model, increased from the central tropical Pacific to the eastern Pacific, suggesting 0.7?5.0 mm particulate matter in the eastern Pacific are much easier to aggregate into large particulate matter (>5 mm). All of the scavenging, aggregating and removal rates of 234Th show west-east increasing patterns. Notably, the aggregating rates is nearly equal to the removal rates of 234Th, implying that 234Th is quickly removed after scavenged onto particulate matter. The aggregating rates of POC and particulate nitrogen (PN), evaluated from the aggregating rate constants, varies from 47 μmol/(m3·d) to 264 μmol/(m3·d) and from 4 μmol/(m3·d) to 44 μmol/(m3·d), with the average of 134 μmol/(m3·d) and 21 μmol/(m3·d), respectively. Both POC and PN aggregating rates show higher values in the eastern Pacific and lower values in the central Pacific. Coupling among POC concentrations, aggregating rates and POC fluxes support that POC fluxes is regulated by POC aggregating rates to a certain extent.
