Abstract: In order to investigate the effect of slime water quality on the stability of octanol emulsion, the emulsification performance index(S), average particle size and zeta potential of emulsion samples were determined by acid-base and electrolyte. The effect of pH value and electrolyte (NaCl, CaCl2, AlCl3) on the stability of the emulsion was studied, and the influencing mechanism was revealed by the classical DLVO theory. The results show that both the potential energy barrier of the emulsion system and the electrostatic repulsion of the oil droplets increase with the increase of pH from 4 to 11, leading to the decrease in the particle size of the emulsion. Consequently, the stability of emulsion increases, and the dispersibility becomes better. When pH continuously increases from 11 to 12, the performance of emulsion is opposite to the law mentioned above. With the increase of concentration and electrolyte valence, the potential barrier curve of the emulsion and the electrostatic repulsion significantly decrease. The stability and dispersibility of emulsion reduce due to the increasing particle size of emulsion. Weak alkaline slime water is beneficial for the stability of the emulsion. However, the electrolyte contained in slime water is bad for emulsion stability, overall resulting in the decrease of emulsion stability and dispersion in the pulp.
